The President of Mount Sinai says a team at the New York hospital has designed a conversion kit that makes breathing assistance machines donated by Tesla CEO Elon Musk into desperately needed ventilators that can used on critical care patients suffering from COVID-19. The conversion kit instructions have been made public as well.
Following a twitter post in response to delivery of the machines to a New York City hospital, several twitter users pointed out the devices were not full-fledged “invasive” ventilators but were instead B-PAP (bi-valve) machines more closely related to C-PAP machines often used by people suffering from sleep apnea and other breathing disorders. Those kinds of machines are not purpose-built to be used as invasive ventilators typically needed by victims suffering severely from COVID-19.
